Overview

     With the success of the Executioner and the introduction of new OmniMechs such as the Linebacker, Clan Ghost Bear went to the drawing board to create one of their own.  It was ideal for them to create an OmniMech that could keep up with the Viper and Fire Moth designs.  This way, striker star commanders could have an ideal command vehicle  without resorting to slower machines.
     This OmniMech was meant to be produced after Turkayyid.  It was postponed several times after Khan Jorgensson ordered relocation into their inner sphere occupation zone.  After these hard times, the result was the Klondike, a fast-striking heavy OmniMech that is a match for Omni’s in its class and below it.  The name of the OmniMech comes from  the success of General Kerensky during Operation: Klondike when the Clans overthrew the pentagon worlds.  It is also a reference to the struggles Clan Ghost Bear went through moving from the pentagon world to their new occupation zone.

Capabilities


     A tactic in popular use by Clan Ghost Bear is deploying fast OmniMechs to drop elementals in battle or behind enemy lines.  The Klondike works as an able elemental carrier much like the Fire Moth and Viper but has more pod space for weapons and other useful equipment.  Like the Viper it has good armor protection, and like the Fire Moth it utilizes the MASC system to give it a burst of speed in special situations.  For being a heavy machine, the Klondike can move up to 129.6 KPH which is more than enough speed to perform its role.

Variants

     The Primary configuration is general, suited for fast-strike recon roles and filling a niche in most recon stars.  The hard hitting ER PPC and accurate large pulse laser provide the OmniMech with good long-range capabilities.  It is a one-two punch that is usually overlooked by most hardened warriors, but striker star commanders find it very useful when targeting fast machines.  For an added bonus, it carries a streak SRM-6 system and a small pulse laser for support.  To counter inner sphere ambush tactics this configuration has an active probe.

     Alternate A is more suited for a fire support role.  Each arm holds an ER PPC linked to a targeting computer, much like the one on the Warhawk, in the right torso.  The long range and hard punch of the PPC’s combined with the Klondike’s maneuverability allows it to move into key positions at ease.  This configuration also comes equipped with electronic countermeasures making it harder to detect.

     Alternate B is equipped with a powerful electronic warfare array consisting of the active probe and ECM suite.  Like other specialist configurations found on the Viper and Fire Moth this version comes equipped with dual machine guns and dual flamers for anti-infantry work.  For other defense measures it carries dual anti-missile systems and mounts specialty anti-personal pods.  When this configuration is in combat it can defend itself with dual large lasers linked to a targeting computer.

     For close combat, a warrior will equip the Klondike with the dangerous Alternate C configuration.  The main weapon is the ultra AC/20 mounted in its right arm.  The ammo is low for the weapon but warriors find it just enough within a duel or short engagement.  In the left arm it carries an ER medium laser array much like the one on the Stormcrow or Nova.  Though it runs a little hot, this variant has become increasingly popular over the others because of its effectiveness in combat.

     Alternate D is another fire-support configuration that works with starmates equipped with TAG and narc missile beacons.  Each arm is equipped with dual LRM-15 launchers equipped with twelve reloads each.  To defend itself the Omni carries two ER medium lasers in the right torso.  This configuration is very specialized and is rarely used outside of its purpose.

     Urban warfare has become more common against the spheroids.  Alternate S tries to deal with this, hopefully to create a counter, but ended up creating a new configuration preferred because of its jumping ability.  In each arm it has a large pulse laser, which proved reliable for urban based combat because of their unmatched accuracy and range.  When the enemy gets close, it can rely on dual SRM-4 launchers in the right torso.

Variants (Cont.)

     New technologies have inspired a few more configurations for the Klondike.  Even though the equipment has become common among the Clans, these configurations are rare, only because Clan Ghost Bear is slow to adopt anything new.

     Alternate H uses heavy lasers paired with a gauss rifle.  In the right arm lies a massive and reliable gauss cannon with 16 reloads.  The other arm has a high-powered heavy large laser that can tear apart lighter machines in close range.  For an extra punch this configuration houses two heavy small lasers in each side torso.  This configuration is deadly, but warriors seem to be discouraged by the heavy lasers performance.

     The latest configuration mounts the latest in Clan technology, the hyper-assault gauss rifle.  Alternate G uses a HAG 20 in the right arm as its primary weapon.  In the left arm it carries a large laser and dual AP gauss rifles.  When the enemy is close it will use the streak SRM-6 in the right torso.  In a few test runs, warriors have proved the configuration to be especially useful.  The large laser is used to open a hole while the HAG will try and exploit it with deadly force.

Deployment

     Clan Ghost Bear is the only known Clan to deploy the Klondike in the year 3060 and after.  In only a short time it has become useful.  The Klondike is commonly found among striker stars as a command vehicle or a compliment to other heavy stars because of its specialized configurations.  Most MechWarriors prefer it as an alternative to the aging Mad Dog and Hellbringer OmniMechs, though not a replacement.

Sweet picture, it looks better than most from 3050.  I still like it, though I'm not a big fan of the HAG variant.  Maybe swapping the PPC for a large laser, downgrading the HAG to a 20, and adding something else with the remaining tonnage would make it more tolerable (I'd fiddle with it myself, but my computer with TW toys on HMP just died).
It's a shame they went out like they did.  There's some real meat on those bones, fictionally speaking.  They could have been run like the Old Republic in Star Wars; fractious and bellicose, but with fangs.  Like a space platypus. - LiaoFan on the FWL

Yes, I was a little impartial to it as well.  I'll give it another try.

I like it!  All the configs look good, and it puts that lame Wolf Clan Linebacker to shame.  Very well thought out, although I'm not sure I'd give the side torsoes 18 armor.  Personally, I'd have the legs at 22 and boost the side torsoes to 20 in front.

My only other problem is whether to think of ice cream bars or gold rushes when I see the name. Crazy, Nutters, Gonzo even

Thanks for the comments.  I know it hasn't really changed, but I wanted an updated thread with a few more variants.  Mostly for TW.
